Vortex ring

A toroidal vortex that forms when a mass of fluid rotates around a central axis, creating a closed loop of swirling fluid. These rings can travel through a quiescent fluid, maintaining their shape and momentum for a considerable distance. Smoke rings are a common example of vortex rings.
