Vortex Rossby waves
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010062
Waves that propagate within a rotating fluid, such as the Earth's atmosphere, where the restoring force is provided by the gradient of potential vorticity. These waves are often observed in the vicinity of strong atmospheric vortices, like tropical cyclones or polar vortices. They can influence the evolution and movement of these large-scale weather systems.
