Rossby number
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008608
A dimensionless number used in fluid dynamics to characterize the ratio of inertial forces to Coriolis forces. It indicates the relative influence of planetary rotation on a fluid flow. A small Rossby number suggests that Coriolis effects dominate, as seen in large-scale atmospheric and oceanic motions.
