Rossby parameter

The latitudinal variation of the Coriolis parameter, which describes how the Coriolis effect changes with latitude. It is a key factor in the dynamics of large-scale atmospheric and oceanic waves, known as Rossby waves. This parameter is represented by the symbol beta (β) and is positive in the Northern Hemisphere.
