Rossby number similarity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010728

A theoretical framework used to describe the structure of the planetary boundary layer under neutral or near-neutral atmospheric stability. It relates surface fluxes of momentum, heat, and moisture to large-scale atmospheric parameters by using the Rossby number and a stability parameter. The theory yields universal functions for the geostrophic drag coefficient and the cross-isobar angle of the surface wind as a function of surface roughness.
