Universal functions

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009890

A set of dimensionless mathematical expressions used in Monin-Obukhov similarity theory to describe the vertical profiles of wind and temperature in the atmospheric surface layer. These functions relate the gradients of wind speed and potential temperature to a stability parameter that depends on surface heat flux and friction velocity. They provide a standardized framework for modeling turbulent fluxes near the ground under different stability conditions.
