Geostrophic drag coefficient
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005950
A dimensionless parameter that relates the surface stress (drag) exerted by the atmosphere to the geostrophic wind speed in the planetary boundary layer. It quantifies the efficiency with which momentum is transferred from the free atmosphere to the Earth's surface through turbulent processes. This coefficient is influenced by surface roughness and atmospheric stability, and it is used in numerical weather prediction models.
