Geostrophic dividers
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005949
A specialized plotting tool used in meteorology to graphically determine the geostrophic wind speed and direction from a weather map. It consists of a pair of dividers with a scale that relates the distance between isobars or contours to the corresponding geostrophic wind speed. This instrument is calibrated for a specific latitude and pressure level, reflecting the variation of the Coriolis parameter.
