Geostrophic advection
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005942
The horizontal transport of a scalar quantity, such as temperature or moisture, by a geostrophic wind. This process assumes that the wind responsible for the advection is in geostrophic balance, meaning it flows parallel to the isobars. Geostrophic advection is a key mechanism for redistributing heat and moisture in the atmosphere, influencing weather patterns and temperature changes.
