Geostrophic flux
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005953
The transport of a quantity, such as heat, momentum, or mass, by a geostrophic flow. This flux is calculated assuming that the fluid motion is entirely governed by the balance between the Coriolis force and the horizontal pressure gradient force. Geostrophic flux calculations are used in atmospheric and oceanic models to estimate the large-scale redistribution of properties within these systems.
