Drag coefficient

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005126

A dimensionless quantity that quantifies the resistance or drag of an object moving through a fluid medium such as air or water. It relates the drag force acting on the body to the fluid density, the fluid velocity, and the object's reference area. This coefficient depends on the shape of the object and the Reynolds number, and it is used in models to calculate the motion of precipitation particles or airborne objects.
