Coriolis parameter
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004703
A scalar quantity that represents twice the vertical component of the Earth's angular velocity, influencing the Coriolis force. It is calculated as 2Ω sin(φ), where Ω is the angular speed of the Earth's rotation and φ is the latitude. This parameter varies from zero at the equator to its maximum value at the poles.
