Inertial period

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006522

The time it takes for a fluid parcel to complete one full rotation in an inertial oscillation, driven solely by the Coriolis force. This period is inversely proportional to the Coriolis parameter, which varies with latitude. At the poles, the inertial period is 12 hours, while it approaches infinity at the equator.
