Inertial coordinate system
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006514
A reference frame in which Newton's laws of motion hold true without the introduction of fictitious forces. For most meteorological applications, a coordinate system fixed to the Earth's surface is considered non-inertial due to the Earth's rotation, requiring the inclusion of the Coriolis and centrifugal forces. A truly inertial frame would be one that is not accelerating or rotating.
