Inertial wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006528
A type of internal wave in a rotating fluid where the restoring force is primarily the Coriolis effect. These waves have frequencies lower than the Coriolis parameter and propagate horizontally and vertically within the fluid. Inertial waves are common in the ocean and atmosphere, influencing large-scale circulation patterns.
