Inertia wave

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006512

A wave in a rotating fluid whose restoring force is the Coriolis force rather than buoyancy. In a uniformly rotating fluid such waves exist only at frequencies between zero and twice the rotation rate. In a stratified ocean or atmosphere the related inertia-gravity waves have frequencies between the local inertial frequency f and the buoyancy frequency.
