Moment of inertia

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007392

A measure of an object's resistance to changes in its rotational motion, analogous to mass in linear motion. It depends on the mass distribution relative to the axis of rotation. In atmospheric science, it is relevant for understanding the rotational dynamics of planets and large-scale atmospheric circulations, such as the Earth's rotation affecting Coriolis forces.
