Torque
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009702
A rotational force that tends to cause an object to rotate about an axis. In atmospheric science, it can refer to forces that induce rotation in fluid parcels, contributing to the development of vortices like tornadoes or mesocyclones. It is calculated as the product of a force and the perpendicular distance from the axis of rotation to the line of action of the force.
