Mountain torque
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007428
A force exerted on the atmosphere by mountain ranges, arising from pressure differences across the topography. This torque influences the angular momentum of the atmosphere, playing a role in global atmospheric circulation patterns. It is a key component in numerical weather prediction models, particularly for simulating large-scale flows.
