Mountain observation

A meteorological observation taken at a high-altitude station located on a mountain summit or slope. These observations provide data on atmospheric conditions in the free atmosphere, away from the direct influence of surface conditions in adjacent lowlands. Data from mountain observatories are used for weather forecasting, climate monitoring, and studying atmospheric processes like orographic lift and mountain waves.
