Local angular momentum
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007004
The angular momentum of a fluid parcel or a small volume of fluid relative to a local axis of rotation, often associated with the local rotation or vorticity of the fluid. In atmospheric dynamics, changes in local angular momentum are governed by torques exerted by pressure gradients and frictional forces. It is a component of the total angular momentum of the atmosphere.
