Absolute angular momentum
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003178
A measure of the rotational inertia of a parcel of air or fluid, relative to a fixed point in space. It is the sum of the angular momentum relative to the Earth's surface and the angular momentum due to the Earth's rotation. Conservation of absolute angular momentum is a fundamental principle in understanding large-scale atmospheric and oceanic circulations.
