Absolute momentum

The sum of the momentum of an air parcel relative to the Earth's surface and the momentum due to the Earth's rotation. This quantity is conserved in the absence of external forces and friction. It is a key concept in understanding the dynamics of large-scale atmospheric flows, such as jet streams.
