Torrent
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009703
A violent, rushing stream of water that appears suddenly following a heavy downpour or rapid snowmelt. These flows are characterized by high velocity and erosive power, typically occurring in steep, narrow channels or ravines that are otherwise dry. Unlike a perennial river, a torrent is an ephemeral event directly linked to specific, intense precipitation, capable of transporting large volumes of sediment and debris.
