Ice stream

A region within an ice sheet or ice cap where ice flows considerably faster than the surrounding ice. These channels of rapidly moving ice act as conduits, draining large volumes of ice from the interior of an ice sheet towards its margins. Ice streams can move at speeds of several hundred meters per year.
