Sheet erosion
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008834
The uniform removal of a thin layer of topsoil from a large area by the action of rainfall and surface runoff. This process occurs when water flows as a broad sheet rather than in concentrated channels, gradually detaching and transporting soil particles. It is a subtle form of erosion that can lead to substantial soil loss over time, reducing agricultural productivity.
