Runoff plot

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010732

A small, bounded area of land used in hydrology and soil science to measure surface runoff and soil erosion. The plot is isolated by borders to prevent water from entering or leaving, except through a collection device at the downslope end. Data collected from these plots, such as runoff volume and sediment yield per unit area, are used to study the effects of slope, soil type, and land cover on erosion processes.
