Runoff coefficient

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008624

A dimensionless factor representing the fraction of total precipitation that becomes surface runoff, rather than infiltrating the ground or evaporating. It is used in hydrology to estimate the volume of runoff from a given area during a rainfall event. The coefficient varies depending on land cover, soil type, and antecedent moisture conditions, typically ranging from 0.05 for permeable soils to 0.95 for impervious surfaces.
