Antecedent precipitation index

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003550

A numerical value representing the cumulative effect of previous rainfall on soil moisture conditions, weighted by time to account for drying. This index is used to estimate the wetness of a drainage basin before a new precipitation event. A higher index indicates wetter soil and a greater potential for runoff and flooding.
