Transmission coefficient

The fraction of incident electromagnetic radiation or sound energy that passes through a medium or across an interface. In atmospheric science, it quantifies how much solar radiation penetrates the atmosphere to reach the Earth's surface or how much radiation is transmitted through a cloud layer. This coefficient is a dimensionless quantity ranging from 0 to 1.
