Absorption optical thickness

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003206

A dimensionless quantity that describes the extent to which a medium absorbs radiation along a given path. It is the integral of the absorption coefficient over the path length, indicating how much of the incident radiation is absorbed. A higher optical thickness implies greater absorption and less transmission of radiation through the medium.
