Absorption loss
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003205
The reduction in the intensity of electromagnetic radiation as it passes through a medium due to its conversion into other forms of energy, primarily heat. In the atmosphere, this loss occurs as gases and aerosols absorb incoming solar or outgoing terrestrial radiation. It is a key component of the overall attenuation of radiation.
