Cloud attenuation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004406

The reduction in intensity of electromagnetic radiation, such as solar radiation or radar signals, as it passes through a cloud. This reduction occurs due to absorption and scattering by water droplets or ice crystals within the cloud. The degree of attenuation depends on the cloud's physical properties, including its water content and particle size.
