Atmospheric attenuation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003664

The reduction in the intensity of electromagnetic radiation or sound waves as they pass through the Earth's atmosphere. This weakening occurs due to absorption by atmospheric gases and scattering by particles like aerosols and hydrometeors. The degree of attenuation depends on the wavelength of the radiation and the composition of the atmosphere.
