Atmosphere-ocean interaction

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010387

The continuous exchange of energy, momentum, and matter across the boundary between the atmosphere and the ocean. These coupled processes include the transfer of heat, water vapor through evaporation, and gases like carbon dioxide, as well as the mechanical transfer of momentum from wind to create ocean currents and waves. The El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is a prominent example of large-scale atmosphere-ocean interaction that affects global weather patterns.
