Range attenuation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008399
The reduction in the power of a radar signal as it propagates through the atmosphere, primarily due to the spreading of the electromagnetic wave and absorption by atmospheric gases and hydrometeors. This effect causes the strength of the received echo to decrease with increasing distance from the radar. Radar equations typically include a range-squared term to account for this spreading.
