Transmission loss

The reduction in the intensity or power of a signal, such as electromagnetic radiation or sound waves, as it propagates through a medium or across a distance. In the atmosphere, this loss is caused by absorption, scattering, and spreading of the wave. It is often expressed in decibels per unit distance.
