Volume absorption coefficient

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010050

A measure of the rate at which radiant energy is absorbed per unit volume of a medium as it propagates through that medium. This coefficient quantifies the reduction in intensity of electromagnetic radiation due to absorption by atmospheric gases and particles. It is expressed in units of inverse length, such as reciprocal meters (m^-1).
