Radar equation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008265

A mathematical relationship that quantifies the power received by a radar antenna from a target, based on the transmitted power, antenna characteristics, target properties, and distance. It links the measurable radar parameters to the scattering properties of atmospheric targets like raindrops or snowflakes. This equation is expressed in terms of radar cross-section for point targets or reflectivity for distributed targets.
