Volume target
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010054
An atmospheric region containing numerous small scatterers, such as raindrops, snowflakes, or aerosols, that collectively reflect or scatter electromagnetic radiation. Radar systems detect and analyze the signals returned from these distributed targets to infer properties like precipitation intensity, wind speed, and cloud structure. The radar equation is adapted to account for the scattering from a volume rather than a single point.
