Range error
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008401
An inaccuracy in the measurement of distance to an object, often encountered in radar or lidar systems. In meteorology, this error can arise from incorrect assumptions about the speed of electromagnetic waves through the atmosphere, which varies with temperature, pressure, and humidity. It can also be caused by timing inaccuracies in the system or by reflections from unintended targets.
