Vortex sheet
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010063
An idealized surface in a fluid across which there is a discontinuity in the tangential velocity component, representing a thin layer of concentrated vorticity. This concept is used to model shear layers and the initial stages of turbulence development. Vortex sheets are inherently unstable and tend to roll up into discrete vortices.
