Vortex line

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010060

A line in a fluid flow that is everywhere tangent to the local vorticity vector. These lines provide a visual representation of the rotational characteristics of a fluid. In an inviscid fluid, vortex lines move with the fluid particles, a concept known as Kelvin's circulation theorem.
