Vortex filament

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010059

An idealized concept in fluid dynamics representing a line or curve in a fluid where the vorticity is concentrated. It is a mathematical construct used to simplify the analysis of complex three-dimensional vortex structures. The strength of a vortex filament is defined by the circulation around it.
