V-R vortex
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010838
A theoretical model of a vortex where the tangential velocity (V) is inversely proportional to the radius (R) from the center, following the relationship V × R = constant. This describes an irrotational vortex, where angular momentum is conserved, and results in wind speeds that increase infinitely as the center is approached. While real-world vortices like tornadoes approximate this behavior at some distance, their centers feature a solid-body rotation core where velocity decreases to zero.
