Burger's vortex
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004095
A theoretical model of a steady, axisymmetric vortex that includes the effects of both viscosity and axial stretching, providing a simplified representation of concentrated vortices in fluids. It describes a balance between the inward advection of angular momentum by radial flow and its outward diffusion by viscosity. This model is used to understand the dynamics of atmospheric phenomena like tornadoes and waterspouts.
