Burger number
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004094
A dimensionless parameter in geophysical fluid dynamics that compares the relative strength of stratification to the Coriolis effect in a rotating fluid system. It is defined as the ratio of the Rossby radius of deformation squared to the characteristic horizontal length scale squared. A small Burger number indicates that rotation dominates stratification, while a large number suggests the opposite.
