Péclet number
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007832
A dimensionless quantity that characterizes the ratio of advective transport rate to diffusive transport rate of a physical quantity, such as heat or mass, within a fluid flow. In atmospheric science, it indicates the relative strength of bulk fluid motion compared to molecular diffusion in transferring atmospheric constituents. A high Péclet number suggests that advection dominates the transport process.
