Stream network

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009312

The system of interconnected channels, from small headwater trickles to large rivers, that drains a particular watershed or basin. The pattern of a stream network is influenced by the region's topography, geology, and climate, resulting in distinct drainage patterns like dendritic, trellis, or radial. Stream order is a method used to classify the relative size of streams within the network, starting with first-order streams at the headwaters.
