Stream piracy
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009314
A geomorphological process where a stream or river captures the headwaters of another stream, diverting its flow into its own drainage basin. This occurs when one stream erodes its headwaters more rapidly than an adjacent stream, eventually breaching the divide between them. It can significantly alter drainage patterns and landscapes over geological timescales.
